FLOOD INSURANCE RATE MAP (FIRM)

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) delineates flood hazard areas for flood insurance purposes. These areas are shown on the Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) for the Newman area.

A paper copy of the maps is available during normal business hours at the Public Works Department, located at 938 Fresno Street, Newman, California.

More information is available in the following resources or by calling Kathryn Reyes at (209) 862-4448.

ELEVATION CERTIFICATES

Elevation Certificates are a critical component of the city’s goal of ensuring compliance with National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) regulations under Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). As part of the agreement for making flood insurance available in a community, the NFIP requires the community to adopt floodplain management regulations that specify minimum requirements for reducing flood losses. The Elevation Certificate provides a way for a community to document compliance with the community’s floodplain management ordinance. An Elevation Certificate, or any other flood plain-related certificate that is appropriate for development, is required when any new construction, substantial improvement, or repair for a substantially damaged building is conducted in the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA).

To request a copy of your Elevation Certificate, please contact the Public Works Department at (209) 862-4448.
