Newman Fire Department

Welcome

On behalf of everyone at the Newman Fire Department, we welcome you to our page. We strive on being a professional and community service-driven organization that believes in our core values, mission, and vision statements.

The Fire Department is an all-risk department that functions out of a joint facility located at the intersection of Kern Street and Highway 33 near historic Downtown Main Street in Newman, Ca. The organization conducts Administration, Operations, Training, Prevention, Public Education, and Emergency Management functions from this single location. Through a long-term cooperative agreement, the fire department is jointly owned and operated by West Stanislaus County Fire Protection District.

As a small-town department, we thrive on the value of community and pride ourselves on using local volunteer firefighters to respond to nearly 1200 calls for service a year (2022). The department currently has a volunteer fire force of 24 Firefighters, 2 Fire Prevention Officers, 1 Community Risk Specialist, and 1 Fire Chaplin. Currently, the Fire Chief and Office Assistant are the only regularly paid staff for the fire department.

The fire department maintains a fleet of apparatus that best meets the functional needs of the local community. These apparatuses include (2) – Type I Fire Engines, (1) – Light Technical Rescue Unit, (1) – Type 3 Fire Engine, (1) – Type VI Fire Engine, (1) – 3000-gallon Water Tender, (1) – Breathing Air Support Unit, and (1) – Emergency Support Trailer.

In 2019, the fire department received its Public Protection Classification (PPC) Summary Report from the Insurance Service Office, Incorporated (ISO), and ISO concluded its review of the fire suppression features being provided for Newman. The resulting community classification was Class 04/4Y.
